I am a Professor of History and Asian Studies at the University of Connecticut, where I have been teaching since 2013. From 2008-2013 I was Assistant Professor of history and public policy at Princeton University. Before that I was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (2005-2008) and Idaho State University (2003-2005).

I received my PhD in US history at Northwestern University in 2003 and my BA in International Relations from Georgetown University.

At UConn I am jointly appointed in History and Asian and Asian American Studies, the latter a unit in our new Department of Social and Critical inquiry. I currently serve as head of AAAS. I am also a proud UConn AAUP union member.

Outside of UConn I am a lifetime member of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. I am also founder and director of the Indonesia and East Timor Documentation Project at the National Security Archive.
